Fraud Awareness Advice from your Local PCSO

Dear residents,

Fraud and scams continue to be a growing concern across our communities, and offenders are using increasingly sophisticated methods to trick people into handing over money or personal information.

Over the last week, I have attended a few victims of fraud and as your local PCSO, I want to share some simple but important advice to help keep you and your loved ones safe:

🚫 Common types of Fraud

  • Phone scams - claiming to be from your bank, HMRC, or the police.
  • Text or email scams - with links to fake websites asking for person details.
  • Online shopping scams - involving fake websites or sellers.
  • Romance fraud - where scammers build fake relationships online.
  • Courier fraud - where fraudsters send someone to collect your bank card or cash.
  • ✅ How to protect yourself:

  • Take five: Always stop and think before sharing personal or financial details.
  • Never give out PINs or passwords: even if the caller says they're from your bank or the police.
  • Hang up and contact the organisation directly: using a trusted number if in doubt.
  • Install antivirus software: and keep devices updated.
  • 📞 If you think you've been a victim of fraud:

  • Contact your bank immediately.
  • Report to Action Fraud online at www.actionfraud.police.uk or call 03001232040.
  • Let's look out for each other. Please share this message with friends, family, and especially those who may be more vulnerable to scams.

    Stay safe,

    PCSO Nikki 😊
